Summary:  When patients have access to their health records, they can better coordinate their care and have greater control over their health and well-being.  But while more health information is available to patients electronically, patients and caregivers still face challenges in accessing, using and sharing their information. 

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) recently completed a report that looked at patients’ experience with getting their medical record.  ONC found that health care systems have the opportunity now to reduce the burden on patients as well as health care providers.
